Aadhaar–PAN Linking Online: Step-by-Step Guide, Deadline, and How to Check Status
Linking Aadhaar with PAN has become a crucial compliance requirement for taxpayers in India. The Income Tax Department has simplified the process through its new e-filing portal, allowing both registered and unregistered users to complete the task online within minutes. With a clear deadline in place, missing this step could have serious financial consequences.

Important deadline you should not ignore
If your PAN was issued before October 4, 2024, and you used your Aadhaar enrolment ID while applying for PAN, the last date to link Aadhaar with PAN is December 31, 2025.
Failure to do so will make your PAN inoperative from January 1, 2026.
An inoperative PAN means you will not be able to carry out key financial activities such as:
- Filing income tax returns
- Investing in mutual funds or shares
- Opening bank accounts
- Buying or selling property
