Link Your PAN Card with Aadhaar Before to Avoid Deactivation
Link your PAN with Aadhaar before December 31, 2025, to prevent deactivation and avoid financial disruptions in transactions.
In India, citizens must maintain several essential documents for everyday activities, and among them, the PAN card is one of the most important. From banking and taxation to identity verification, a valid PAN is required for many critical tasks. If your PAN becomes inactive, everything from opening a bank account to completing financial transactions can come to a standstill.

To prevent this inconvenience, the government has repeatedly reminded PAN holders to complete one crucial requirement on time. Here’s what you need to know.
Government Makes PAN–Aadhaar Linking Mandatory
The government has issued multiple notices urging all PAN cardholders to link their PAN with their Aadhaar number. This linking is now compulsory for everyone.
Doing so helps maintain updated tax records under a single identity and makes verification-based services smoother.
Despite these reminders, many people still haven’t completed the linking process — and that’s where the issues begin. An unlinked PAN is treated as inactive, which can disrupt several financial activities.
What Happens If Your PAN Becomes Inactive?
If your PAN is not linked to Aadhaar, you may face several restrictions, such as:
- Unable to open new bank accounts
- Restrictions on large financial transactions
- Difficulties in filing Income Tax Returns
- Limited access to Income Tax Department services
- Problems with loan processing, credit cards, and KYC
- Delays or rejection in financial applications
To avoid these disruptions, it’s best to complete the linking process as early as possible.

How to Link Your PAN With Aadhaar
Linking PAN with Aadhaar is quick and can be done online within a few minutes. You can still complete the process by paying a penalty until December 31, 2025. After this deadline, your PAN will be deactivated.
Here’s how to link them:
- Visit the official Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Choose the option ‘Link PAN with Aadhaar’.
- Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and registered mobile number.
- You will receive an OTP on your mobile — enter it to verify and finish the process.
If there’s any mismatch in your Aadhaar details (such as name or date of birth), you must update it at an Aadhaar enrollment center before linking.
Most banks also allow PAN–Aadhaar linking through their net banking portals.
