Passport Verification Record Now Available on DigiLocker, Boosting Digital Convenience for Citizens

Passport Verification Record Now Available on DigiLocker for Citizens’ Ease and Security

The government has taken another important step towards making citizen services more digital and hassle-free. The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled Passport Verification Records (PVR) on the DigiLocker platform. The announcement was made on December 4, 2025, by PIB Delhi.

DigiLocker, which is part of the Digital India initiative, is a secure cloud-based platform that allows users to store, access, share, and verify official documents digitally. With the addition of Passport Verification Records, citizens no longer need to depend on physical paperwork for passport-related verification.

This move supports the broader Digital India vision by simplifying document management, reducing paperwork, and encouraging paperless and contactless services. Once passport verification is successfully completed, citizens can fetch their Passport Verification Record directly from the “Issued Documents” section of their DigiLocker account. These records can be safely stored, accessed anytime, and digitally verified within the DigiLocker ecosystem.

The integration brings several direct benefits for citizens. It offers greater convenience by allowing users to access their Passport Verification Records anytime through the DigiLocker website or mobile app, eliminating the need to carry or preserve physical copies. It is also expected to speed up verification processes related to travel, employment, and compliance, reducing manual paperwork and saving time for both individuals and organisations.

Security is another key advantage. The Passport Verification Records available on DigiLocker are issued digitally by authorised government systems, ensuring they are authentic, tamper-proof, and fully secure. Citizens can also share their PVR digitally with authorised agencies through consent-based access, making verification quicker and removing the need for attested photocopies or repeated submissions.

Additionally, the initiative supports environmentally responsible governance by moving passport verification into a completely digital workflow. This reduces paper usage and promotes greener administrative practices.

Overall, the availability of Passport Verification Records on DigiLocker marks a major milestone in strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure. It reflects a clear citizen-first approach by combining secure digital records with easy access, transparency, and trust. The collaboration between MEA and NeGD under MeitY highlights a coordinated government effort to deliver efficient, secure, and modern digital services. This development is expected to benefit millions of passport holders and applicants by improving service delivery, speeding up verification, and encouraging wider adoption of digital documents across both public and private sectors.
